New Year, New blog (well sort of)

  new-year-1898553_1920

So its January 1st. Happy New Year. Welcome 2017 and welcome to a slight change of name for the NESL blog. We have been using a free WordPress domain for two years. Yesterday I bought us a new .blog address. But, as I want to write about more than just slings and as my own slinging journey is complete – today I worked out which slings I want to list for sale – I have chosen something a little more open. Please welcome slingsandmore.blog our new blogging  home.

I will still be writing about slings, parenting and babywearing education, but I might have a little more flexibility in what I write. I hope you like it. I have also had a play and added an ‘upcoming events’ tab to the blog too. This is linked to our google calendar, so (in theory) should update when I make updates to it.

Happy New Year everyone.

Best Wishes

Rachel

Network Blogger: Life at 32 and a few days

A couple of weeks ago I celebrated my 32nd birthday. I love my birthday, I always have. As I child I think I enjoyed it more than Christmas. What has life taught me as I edge closer to my mid-30s rather than early-30s? It has 10 years since I finished my undergraduate degree and started…

Lumiere Durham 2015

Once again the Lumiere Festival is returning to Durham City. Held in the historic city centre the festival will take place between Thursday 12th – Sunday 15th November. Just like in 2013 the organisers are recommending that you do not take a pushchair and instead use a sling. The 2013 event had 175,000 visitors over 4 days.

Lumiere 2011 – carried close and seeing sites.

Pushchairs can be difficult to push in crowds, they take up space (already at a premium) and in reality all baby/toddler/preschooler will see are other people’s legs. Therefore as I did in 2013 we are once again offering special sling hire sessions. This time I hope not to have to demo from a wheelchair (anyone who came last time will remember my broken ankle).

Lumiere 2013 and one of the 27 exhibits.

During the week of Lumiere we will have 3 normal sessions (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday) but will also offer 3 “open house” drop ins too. Slings will be able to be hired overnight, for a week, a fortnight and a month, with prices reflecting this.

Where will we be?

Monday 9th November Miss Tina‘s , Barmston, Washington. Sling hire £8 for 4 weeks.

Tuesday 10th November open house at home 10-12 drop in. Sling hire £3 for 1 week.

Wednesday 11th November main library drop in 10-12 at home. Sling hire £3 for 1 week, £5 for 2 weeks and £8 for 4.

Thursday 12th November open house home drop in 12.30-2.30. Sling hire overnight for return on Friday £2, one week £3, till next main drop in £4.50.

Friday 13th November open house 11.30-1.30 at home. Sling hire overnight for return on Saturday afternoon £2. Hire until Thursday 19th £3.20

Saturday 14th November 2-4pm Saturday Slings drop in. Sling hire for one month £8. Hire until Thursday 19th £3.

I hope people appreciate this service. I have tried to limit prices as much as possible but due to the extra paperwork there is a little higher rate for simple overnight hires.

The address do open house sessions is:

Network Blogger: Happy 4th Birthday North East Sling Library

In 2011, inspired by friends in London and West Yorkshire, I launched the North East Sling Library (NESL). Since then I have met hundreds of families – this year I have made 472 sling hires. I have been able to play a small part in each family’s parenting journey and this is something I am immensely proud of.…
